Fungus of the Day
Endemic fungus of Chile. It is edible and highly valued in Indigenous, gourmet, and local cuisine in southern Chile, where it grows in the region’s native forests. Loyo is famous for its large size: it can reach up to 30 centimeters in diameter and weigh around 5 kilos (10 pounds). It is currently classified as endangered.
