As part of our commitment to raising awareness and knowledge about the fascinating world of fungi, we are pleased to share the remarkable progress achieved by our Fungi Education (FE) Programme over the past six months. Our global reach and enrolment, the expansion of educational resources, successful outreach initiatives, and collaborative efforts have propelled our programme to new heights. Join us as we provide an update on the significant milestones reached and the positive impact we have had on students and educators around the world.
Global reach and registrations:
Our educational resources, which include the FF Mycological Curriculum and activities for children from primary school up to Year 5, have generated enormous interest worldwide. We are pleased to announce that we have received more than 2,800 registrations from 76 countries. Registration growth has been exceptional, with a 40% increase, rising from approximately 2,000 to 2,800 since January 2023. The enthusiasm shown by teachers from diverse backgrounds reflects the universal interest in and relevance of our educational materials.
Expanding Our Frontiers:
In the last six months, one of the achievements we are most proud of is the completion of theSpanish translation of the FF Mycological Curriculum Vitae. We have recently published and announced the availability of our curriculum translated into Spanish, ensuring that even more children can benefit from our educational materials.
Collaborative Initiatives:
In collaboration with NorthSpore,As a renowned mushroom cultivation company, we distribute around 75 free mushroom growing kits to educators across the United States. This collaboration has enhanced hands-on learning experiences for both teachers and students. In addition, we have successfully established our presence on social media by creating the page for…Facebook for Fungi Education…and actively collaborating with 15 groups of teachers. This dialogue enables us to share valuable resources and updates, and to foster a dynamic community of educators passionate about mycological education.
Experiences in schools:
During the month of February, our Education Manager had the opportunity to deliver lessons from our mycology curriculum to four 5th grade classes in New Jersey. More than 100 pupils enjoyed learning about mycelium and the interconnection between plants and fungi. The pupils were able to practise and use the cultivation kits donated by North Spore to observe the mycelium up close.
After studying the Flora, Fauna and Funga module of our Archivos Fúngicos or Fungus Files, the pupils took part in a fun activity creating their own guessing games, “Flora, Fauna, Funga or Fiction?” The pupils’ enthusiasm, and their understanding that fungi are distinct from plants, reaffirmed the importance of our programme in fostering scientific curiosity and understanding.
As we reflect on the progress of the past six months, it is clear that our Fungi Education Programme has made significant strides towards achieving its objectives. We are proud of the positive impact we have had on students and educators around the world, thanks to the expansion of educational resources, the success of our outreach activities, exceeding performance indicators, and initiatives carried out in collaboration with companies and schools worldwide.
